Horseback through the Sutter Buttes

I LOVE HORSES.

We will start with that 🙂

This love of mine is something I’m so blessed to be pursuing! I recently took up lessons from an amazing family friend of ours but it’s been a lifelong dream of mine to ride through the mountains horseback. A couple weeks ago Joan made this dream a reality for me when she took myself and another friend of hers on a 4 hour ride through the Sutter Buttes. To say it was beautiful would be an understatement. It was the most beautiful day and the sights were breathtaking. The worlds smallest mountain range isn’t so small from the top.

Horse riding for me is such a relaxing experience. I begged and begged and begged Jordan to get me horse riding lessons for months. His thoughts were, “Okay.. I’ll get you your lessons and you’ll get sick of it after a while and we can be done with this whole horse infatuation.” WRONG! I’m hooked. I will forever be hooked. A horse of my own is definitely going to happen in the near future.. even if he doesn’t know it yet. hehe. 🙂 I grew up on dirt bikes. My family gets together and hosts these camping trips in the mountains with 3-4 families and we trail ride the whole time on dirt bikes. So going from riding something completely controllable with brakes and a throttle to riding something that could throw you off in a second….It’s  such an adrenaline rush for me. The horses I ride are well trained. But, well trained or not they are still animals and they still have a mind of their own. But on this ride we rode down some very steep hills. Going up was no problem. Going down…. oh boy. Joan stated, “What goes up, must come down”… I really didn’t think about that until we were staring down a steep trail. But Roxy, the horse I ride, was a total angel and took me down slow and smooth.  This is a view from the top of our trail ride! This picture obviously does it no justice. It was so beautiful and peaceful up there. Looking out on all of Sutter, Yuba City, and far beyond that I’m sure. I’m so glad I got to see our little town in a different light. We ended our ride just as the sun was setting. What an perfect end to a perfect day. Expect many more Horse riding photos as we plan to take the horses to many more beautiful trails. 🙂
